How do you calculate the depth of the indentation left after a Rockwell hardness test?
1. HRA, HRC, and HRD scales. The Rockwell hardness value is HR=100-h/0.002, and the residual indentation depth is h=(100-HR)×0.002mm. For example, when the hardness value is 62HRC, the residual indentation depth is h=(100-62)×0.002=0.076mm.
2. HRB, HRF, HRE, HRG, HRH, and HRK scales. For the HRB, HRE, and HRF scales, the Rockwell hardness value is HR=130-h/0.002, and the residual indentation depth is h=(130-HR)×0.002mm. For example, when the hardness value is 80HRB, the residual indentation depth is h=(130-80)×0.002=0.1mm.
