Uneven sample surfaces may be caused by various reasons, and the corresponding solutions are as follows.
If it is because the mold surface has wear or scratches, causing uneven filling of the mounting material, the mold needs to be ground and polished, and severely worn molds should be replaced in a timely manner.
If it is due to insufficient pressure and the mounting material is not fully compacted, check the pressure system and calibrate the pressure sensor to ensure the pressure can reach the appropriate value; for example, for general mounting, the pressure needs to reach 15-20MPa.
Inappropriate heating temperature, where the mounting material has not completely softened and flowed, will also cause an uneven surface; the temperature controller needs to be calibrated, and the correct temperature set according to the characteristics of the mounting material, such as phenolic resin which is generally heated to 130-150°C.
Improper surface treatment of the sample before mounting, such as the presence of oil stains or impurities, affects the adhesion of the mounting material; the sample surface must be thoroughly cleaned with an alcohol cleaning agent before mounting.
